THE SKYHANGER® STORY:
Our goal was to develop a clothes bag that was very light and highly functional with a clear puristic design. Throughout the entire development process, the focus was on the best quality in order to exceed the customer's expectations of a garment bag.
REINVENTED THE SUIT BAG:
At the end of 2014 we decided to develop a new clothes bag. Most of the existing suit pockets were either poorly crafted, heavy, impractical and or did not look good.
After getting an overview of the existing suit pockets, we realized that only a new approach would lead to a new solution. The focus of the SkyHanger's® is on the user himself. In order to develop a completely new clothes bag, we developed and tested it together with frequent flyers from day one. As a result, the SkyHanger was not influenced by competing products but much more by the needs of frequent flyers and our own requirements.
Right at the beginning when we started to design the first prototypes it became clear that beside the suit bag also a suitable coat hanger has to be developed. Only in this way was it possible to meet the requirements and needs of frequent flyers.
THE FIRST PROTOTYPES:
We started with the general shape of the bag. The first prototypes were all still 'double foldable'. This made the bag handy and much smaller, but the plastic clasps with the cords did not fit the puristic design and looked simply clumsy.
NOW IN "SIMPLY" FOLDABLE DESIGN:
To create a purist and timeless design, we have positioned all bags on the inside or back of the SkyHanger's®. The 'easy' foldable design made the bag much thinner when loaded. So we could also get rid of the plastic clasps and cords. Only the exact size was not yet correct.
TRYING IS ABOUT STUDYING:
Once we found a classic and timeless design in the right size, we could focus on the materials. We tried everything possible until we found the right material: 'Velocity Nylon'. We have tested and improved the last prototypes together with frequent flyers over 1 year. The result: the best quality for every component on the SkyHanger®.
THE CRUNCH POINT:
The biggest sticking point in the development of the SkyHanger was to find a functional and practical solution for fastening the coat hanger. We have tried out countless variants for this purpose. Here are a few examples:
ONCE YOU FOUND IT IT SEEMS SO SIMPLE:
After all these attempts, we were not a step closer to the solution. We were so obsessed with finding a perfect solution that we couldn't see the forest in front of loud trees.
Often the simplest solution is the best solution. A reinforced opening for the hook of the coat hanger at the upper edge - where the hook is fixed by turning it sideways. So the hanger (suit) is perfectly fixed in/on the cover and the suit or the costume literally hangs in the cover, just like at home in the wardrobe. This prevents wrinkles during transport. To hang up in the aircraft pint or wardrobe, simply pull the hook further out. It couldn't be simpler.
EASY TRAVEL REDEFINED:
In the end, we paid a lot of attention to the smaller components. In order to 'close' the SkyHanger® folded, we have attached press studs to avoid plastic buckles and underline the puristic design. After trying out all possible types of push buttons and positions on the SkyHanger, we decided on four push buttons from an American manufacturer. For the zippers we have chosen high-end nylon zippers, because they are extremely light and also 'run' very easily. The handles are filled and lie very comfortably in the hand: a joy to carry.
